Sourcing

Every specification on this site comes from a page we read. That page is listed in the Sources section of the article the figure appears in, and it is linked so you can check it.

The order of preference is: the manufacturer's own specification page or manual, then the manufacturer's product page, then a major retailer's published specification where the manufacturer publishes none. Where a figure comes from a retailer rather than the maker, the source line says so.

Where nothing is published, we print that. A row reading "not published" means we checked the page cited and the figure was not there. Silently dropping the row would make the comparison look cleaner and would mislead.

Claims we will not make

• That we tested something. We have not played, handled or owned any product on this site.
• Any credential the author does not hold. No qualification, no professional review, no expert panel.
• Tenure. No "long-time", no "veteran", no number of years.
• A price we cannot verify. Prices render only from the live data layer.
• Star ratings in structured data. Our editorial scores are visible on the page and are deliberately excluded from the machine-readable markup, because publishing an untested score as a product rating would contradict the page it sits on.
• Fabricated urgency. No countdowns, no invented scarcity, no "prices going up".

Independence

Capo & Cable accepts no paid placement, no sponsored rankings and no free products. Its only revenue is affiliate commission on purchases readers choose to make, described in full on the disclosure page.

Commission rates differ between product categories. They play no part in what gets recommended, and the structural reason is that our reasoning is published: every pick is argued from cited specifications, so a ranking bought rather than earned would show up as an argument that does not hold.

Updates

Prices refresh daily from a live feed. Every price carries the date it was checked, and prices older than the freshness gate disappear rather than persisting.

Specifications are re-checked when a manufacturer revises a product, when a reader tells us something has changed, or when we revisit an article.

Articles carry a published date and, where they have been revised, a separate updated date. We do not silently change the date on an unchanged page to make it look fresh.

Corrections

What happens next:

1. We check the claim against the source cited on the page, and against the manufacturer's current published information.
2. Where you are right, the page is corrected and the updated date is changed.
3. Where the correction changes a recommendation or a ranking, a note is added to the page saying what changed and when. A ranking that moves without explanation is indistinguishable from a ranking that was bought.
4. Where we cannot verify the claim either way, we say so on the page rather than picking a side.

Corrections are the priority category in our inbox, ahead of every other kind of message.

Owner reports and consensus

Some findings on this site are patterns in what owners consistently report — a clip that fatigues, a headphone output that disappoints. Where we use those, they are labeled as owner consensus, not presented as measurements, and we say when reports conflict rather than picking the version that suits the argument.

Products we recommend

Every product carries a "skip this if" section, including the ones ranked first. A roundup in which six options are all excellent has not made a decision, and a recommendation with no downside attached is an advertisement.

Reader data

We use analytics to see which pages are read and which links are clicked. We do not sell reader data and we do not build profiles. The detail is in the privacy policy.
